FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions – please feel welcome to contact me if your query does not appear here 🙂

Q: Do you accept all dogs for boarding and daycare?

A:  All sizes and types of dog are welcome, as long as they are well socialized dogs who are also house-trained.  I have looked after Great Danes and Chihuahuas and most sizes in between!

I cannot board dogs who are fearful or aggressive around other dogs but am happy to discuss the issues with owners and recommend good trainers etc.

Q: What do you use to walk the dogs in your care?

A:  I almost always use the equipment provided by the owner. The exception to this is if an owner wants their dog walked on a prong/pinch collar – I am against these and do not use them.  As my home is right opposite the park entrance, most of the dogs are only on lead for half a minute anyway.

Q:  Where do boarding dogs sleep?

A:  Most dogs choose to sleep upstairs in my room, where there are several dog beds.  However a few dogs prefer to sleep downstairs in the dog den on the  superking size bed there.

Q:  Can I book my dog in and then leave him with you straight away?

A:  All new dogs come over for a ‘meet and greet’ with me and my two dogs. This gives me a chance to get to know them, and allows their owner to see exactly where their dogs will be staying and walking.

No dog is accepted for either day care or boarding unless there has been the meet and greet.

It is vital that guest dogs get to visit first so that when they do stay here, they are relaxed and happy and recognize me, my dogs, and my home.

Q: Do you offer any form of training?

A: I am able to offer basic training with things such as ‘recall’, and also training a solid ‘watch me’ for more nervous/reactive dogs.  However, although I do attend various training courses and seminar I am not a certified trainer and so while I can advise, for anything complex or serious I would always refer on.

Q: Will you walk my dog off lead?

A: Dogs with a solid recall can be walked off lead as long as their owner confirms they are happy with this, in writing.

When I meet a new dog, I always assess their recall and if it requires work, I will keep the dog on lead for their own safety.

Q: are dogs allowed on the sofas etc in your home?

A: yes, absolutely. The dogs are allowed and welcome on the sofas and the beds.  The only rooms the dogs are not allowed in are the kitchen and bathroom.
